Spiderwick Chronicales

At the begging of the film we are showing the producer of the film when this comes onto the screen there is music that fallows it. The music that is used crates a fairy tail/ magical image with in your head. There is a high and low pitch of sound when the music is being played, their is a rumbling of a drum then this is followed up by a twin-curling, this could of been done by a triangle of some sort. Also the volume of the music goes from low to high, this is to create the image of magic and being mystical, which it has done .

After this we are presented with a couple of extreme close ups of different animals, this makes the audience confused as they don't know where this is taking place, the shot type gives the least amount of information away, this allows them to guess where it may be set. When the animals moves the music's pitch is then changed then bought back down.




This is a mid shot of the room this slowly gives us information of where we are. We can tell by the window that its a old house. This is because the window is circular. This type of window may be found on American styled houses.

We can see a number of bottles containing various things, this make us think; what is this place used
for? experimenting? animal research? ect

The image of the glue or past crates makes you think something horrible is going to happen, something scary could happen next. The use of the close up keeps the audience suspended, as they don't know why its being used or what for.

During the opening scene we are presented with this character, we can tell by the way the person is dressed what time period this might be set in. As we can the character is wearing a waist coat, this indicated to us that he is an intellectual person, also he is wearing glasses, stereotyping people who wear glasses, they are normal intelligent. This part of the opening scene is set in the 19th century. The low key lighting gives it more of a period piece. Also the back wall if full of paintings, this would be seen with in the 19th century as well.

Bridget Jones

When watching the opening of the film 'Bridget Jones's Diary' we a first presented by a character who is wearing a red dress. The dress looks like its a type of dress a person would wear when it is Christmas, also the colour red is associated with Christmas, a time for love. During this scene she talks out to the audience (talks into the camera). Unlike other opening sequences you are presented the persons face this can give you a lot of information to the audience .

Sound

There is music being played at the beginning of the film and also through out the opening sequence. At the beginning there is the sound of a piano playing, this sets a charm atmosphere, also relates to her mood.  When she starts moving forwards the music then changes tempo it sounds more lively. On top of this music being played she is narrating over the top, this suggests that she is looking back in her past, informing  us what went on.

When she is in her flat a song is being played of the top, this song relates to the mood that she is in, later on in the scene the music becomes from being no-diegetic to diegetic music as the actor then starts to sing along to it. This is presented really well with in the scene. When she goes to check the her phone the answering machine starts to play. It says you have no new messages this suggests to us that she has no friends and is lonely.

Editing 

Some of the editing techniques that are used are fades and cross dissolves, this is done to suggest that these images are memories of what she once had


Mise-en-scene

When looking at the opening scene there is a use of low key lighting this says that she is lonely, makes it more of a 'real' situation, people may relate to her as they could of felt or been in the same situation as she's in. The credits are yellow and the type of writing that they are in reflected what type of film it is, they colour is yellow as it reflects her mood, mellow. The type of writing that is used is the type of hand writing  as this film is based on a diary.

Out side the window its snowing, this could relate to winter and as we already have found out its Christmas. When it snows you want to be with your family having a good time or being all nice a worm. As we can see she is all by herself, not doing anything apart from watching TV, drinking and smoking this the re-enforces to us that she is lonely, she has no-one.

 

Wallander

Wallander Analysis 

To open the opening scene you are presented with a establishing shot/long shot. The camera at first is looking down at the water, this makes you confused as this could be anywhere in the world, it doesn't give any information away. When the camera pans up you can see the land, the land it self is deserted, there is no sine of inhabitants. But when you look carefully you can see there is a car in the background. This makes the audience as questions; why is it there? What could be going on? ect.

Sound 

When the camera is just about to go over the top of the car and the two people walking away, there is a sound that is crated. This sound is no-dieogetic as it didn't come from within the program it was added to it. The sound is a swishing sound, when you hear it I crates an image that you're being sucked into something. This is what I think the editor was trying to crate as after that image, you are then presented with two people who are walking away. As the camera angle was high up the sound makes out you are now being bought down to their level. 

When you see the taxi driver with in the car, you can hear a crackerling of the radio, this is then followed by the movement of his eye or finger. The sound during this part symbolises that he is dying but not yet dead, as the radio keeps coming back after not working just like his life. 

Mies-En-Scene

When looking at this picture you are presented with two women, they are both looking away from the camera. When women are used in a program they are normal portrayed as innocent and harmless. The two characters are both wearing black, blackness is associated with death and fear. The one of the left is wearing a leather jacket, this is normal worm by people who ride bikes. In sociaty now people who wear coats/jackets like that are looked to be punks. If you look in detail you can see that she has a red strand of hair, red is thought to be an aggressive colour, this also could show that she is a rebellious type of person.
