Music Video, Teenagers

An improvement that we could do if we had to make it better, would be to make the cuts to the beat of the music, this would then make the music video flow better. It will feel more smooth when watching it. We could also include more cut away's within the music video, this will then also make all the cuts quicker and make it look like more of music video. When watching the video there is a stage where it goes black, we need to look at the cutting in more detail so there isn't any gaps. We need to select the best parts of the filming, so we get the best performance we can. This is because we have some clips where the lead singer looks like he doesn't know the words that well, this will make the video look unprofessional

Question three

Question two

When creating our drama piece we decide to represent the social group that we could all relate, this is a teenager who is in the late teens, they live a normal life but due to his problems it makes it hard for him to do some things but he doesn't let it hold him back. It made it easier as we had a actor who is around the same age as our target audience so he can portray how he is feeling easier on screen to the audience.

We have represented this social group by the clothes that will be worn throughout the film. Also when making this film it was easier for us as we could all relate to different parts, so if we could relate to the character it would make it easier for the audience to relate to it as well, as they would be the same age as us. During our opening sequence the character had no clothes on so you could make a direct link to this but if it was made into a film we would of had clothing that would of made it easier for people to relate to it

These clothes reflect the fashion what is currently in at the moment, this will make it easier for people to relate to it

We didn't want to use any other social groups as it would be hard for us as we wouldn't have enough information to do so. During our opening sequence it is hard to tell what type of social group we are representing as you can see the clothes the person is wearing. Also you cant see or hear other things that might help you think what social group the character is in.

Director's Commentary

Focus Group

After the focus group, we evidently learnt that we had reached many of our goals and aims which were previously set by us, prior to the actual creation of our opening sequence. This included aspects such as:

  • Making our audience want to watch on
  • Ensuring that we met all the conventional features found within an opening sequence
  • Ensuring that our editing and title sequences looked professional and that they were well placed within the frame
  • Appealing to our target audience
  • Ensuring that our overall opening sequence flowed well together
We also recieved some great criticisms and feedback such as making sure that the dynamics within one of our takes is well balanced and even, in comparison to the rest of the opening sequence.

Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

When doing this media project I have learnt to use different types of technology. When creating our blog we used a wide range of different methods to present our information. This is a list of what I myself have used so far: Prezi; this is where you create a mind map of all your ideas, put them in order. It starts with a title in the middle of the page then the camera will move the left when clicking anywhere on the page, this will then take you to your first idea then second ect. You can also add images to this. Slide Rocket: this is like powerpoint, you can add images and videos to it to make it more interesting. Go Animate: this software allows you to choose two characters that will talk to each other, all you need to do is type in the text that you want them to say and they will read it out in a conversation. The down side of this is that they speak in very broken English, so you should only use this when you are talking about small parts of information, not big bulks.  Embedded Youtube videos; this is just when you select a video from Youtube and add it to your blog this is could as could be showing you key information and being put into a video  making it more interesting for the viewer. Screencast: This is a good piece of visual media that I used in my blog. This is when you make your own video of what you want, you can show video's and different websites and talk about what is going on in screen, you are in control of what is going on.

When creating our blogs all the technology that we used was new. I had never used any of the different types of visual media before, this was challenging for me as I had to learn how to use them correctly before I used them. At the end I think I have a good understanding on how to use these different sources of visual media. I have developed my skills on how to use them. All of these different sources have allowed me to produce creative piece of information when looking at, it has allowed me to produce a more creative blog that people should find interesting to view. When doing any of these presentation methods you have to think about what you are going to write before you write then, you may need to write down some information on paper then copy it up onto ant chosen presentation method. Some this when using Prezi I've had to go back and re-do as I have made it full visual so it could be improved. Some of the presentation methods are better than the others when doing a certain task, for example you wouldn't want to use go animate when you need to make a big chunk of information into a visual presentation, you are more likely to use Prezi

When creating our opening scene we had to use different technology. Here is a list of the different equipment we used: MAC's: this helped us develop our films as it had the software we needed to use. Tripods; these helped us to steady the camera to improve our shots. Camera ( Moving and still images): this produced us will quality shots. Livetype: this helped us develop out titles and production company. Final cut: this helped us develop our film and add production company and titles. All the equipment that I used in the opening sequence was knew to me, I have never used it before. When using the technology I would like to think that I have developed my skills within in them. Using these new technology has enabled us to create a effective opening sequence, it has also allowed us to display it in out own unique way in-which we like. When using some on the equipment we had to think about what we were going do to before using it, some of the other equipment we just done it straight away and see whether it was good or not. For example when we where using the camera we had to think about what type of shot we was going to shoot, the we had to think where the camera would be best placed, we previously had drawn out what types of shots we would like to have so this aided us in our decision making. On the other hand when we was using Imovie we had to make the change then see whether it looked better on way or the other, so there was no planning behind it. This means sometimes when doing this we had to re-do stuff in Imove or when using the camera as we could of come up with a better position to have the camera.

When creating our music we all came up with ideas on how we would like the music to sound, then we all spoke about the music and bought our ideas together. As we had someone who is doing music A-Level and was more comfortable in using the technology that was needed to create the music, we gave them the task of crating the music. I had a go a editing the music and found it hard to use. The software that we used made us produce a creative piece of music that fitted well with of film. When creating the music we had to think about where different sounds where going to be placed so it would relate more to what was going on in the film, we had to experiment with different sounds to give it the best effect. We had to change the music a little when people gave us some feedback as they thought it may sounds better and be more effective if we had a different sounds in a certain section. The software that we used was all new to me, I have never used it before.

When creating the titles of the opening sequence we used finial cut. Using this software was new to me as I had never used it before. Know I have used this software I have developed my skills when using it, I feel more comfortable than when I first started. When using this software it allowed us to produce something creative. For example we are able to make the font move across the page and spin around if we wanted it to. When creating our titles we were able to demonstrate our skills, for example we where able to make the font change its angle so it looks like it is written on the wall. We had to plan where we would like to put the fonts, we done this on out story board. When we put them on the film we had to double check if the looked good enough or if we had to change where they where placed to improve it. When asking people opinions on the placement of the titles they may of said to change them to a different place, this means we would then have to move them as it didn't look right in it original place.

-------------------------------------Audience feedback space---------------------------------------------

When looking at my blog I think I have used a wide range if different types of technology that will help me/us develop our film. I feel like I have developed my skills in all aspects of the technology that I have used throughout the creation and filming of the opening scene. I can still improve my skills with in certain areas, for example I could get a better understanding on how to improve my skills when creating music for our film, this will then aid me when making my own films in the future. I have used a wide range of different presentation methods that will keep the viewer interested in what they are reading or viewing.

Feedback

Things that we should change to make it better

When watching out film we needed to change:

-Some of the clips could be shortened.
-The font style.
-Ending of the last scene.
-Change the speed/tempo/ sound of the music to keep people interested.
-Think of a different production company.
-Make sure the order of titles are correct.

This will therefore make our film better to watch from an audience's point of view.

Opening Sequence Q1,2 and 3

The conventions of an opening sequence are as follows: slow/fast paced editing; this is done to change the tempo of the opening, keeps the audience more interested in what is going on. The change of pace during a scene can make people pay more attention to what is going on. Introduction of a setting; this is key when doing an opening sequence, you will need to tell people where the location is but you don't want to show them to much of the setting as they may guess what could happen next. Also within this you will need to tell them the mood of the film, is it going to be a horror, comedy or a thriller? If you set the mood early on it will allow them to get a better understanding of what is going on.  When doing the opening sequence you will need to put the different types of logos in, for example you will need to put the production company and the distribution company, so people are aware of what company's have been involved in the making or distribution of the film. We have included our own production company and have selected a distribution company that we think suits our film. You will also need to think about what order you will want to have your titles in, what type of font and what colour also you may want to think about what type of music you want to have over the top of them, this can also help set the mood of the opening. When shooting the opening sequence you will need to use different types of shots with the camera, you will use and establishing shot; this will show the location of where it is being filmed. Close up; hide key information from the audience, this can also hide the identity of characters. We have used extreme close-up in our film when the character is in the bath and the blood drips onto his face, this shows what facial expression he is pulling in detail. These are some of the conventions that  are used in an opening sequence.

When creating our drama piece we decide to represent the social group that we could all relate, this is a teenager who is in the late teens, they live a normal life but due to his problems it makes it hard for him to do some things but he doesn't let it hold him back. We have represented this social group by the clothes that will be worn throughout the film. Also when making this film it was easier for us as we could all relate to different parts, so if we could relate to the character it would make it easier for the audience to relate to it as well, as they would be the same age as us. We didn't want to use any other social groups as it would be hard for us as we wouldn't have enough information to do so. During our opening sequence it is hard to tell what type of social group we are representing as you can see the clothes the person is wearing. Also you cant see or hear other things that might help you think what social group the character is in.

When thinking of what distribution company we would be using, we thought we would use 'THX'. We chose 'THX' because they specialise in sounds that are being used with in movies/ games. Also this company is linked to games, we could see our film being made into a game. When we chose this we didn't have a good understanding of what distribution company would suit our film the best, now we know what distraction company's would distribute our type of film we may have to change it. We may change our film distribution company to 'Virtigo films' or 'Artificial Eye' as these company produce small budget films and are independent company's. Also when thinking about about what type of company we should use we had to think about what genre of film they produce, once we knew what films they helped produced this narrowed it down.

Production company logo

We came up with this idea for the production logo, we thought that this image would be more appropriate than others as a lion is a fearless and thrilling animal to watch. We made the eyes red to show the anger that is being expressed across it's face. Also the black background makes the white font and white and black image stand out.

Animatic - second draft

This is our new animatic, we had to change the different titles, We done this because when we looked at the film that we had, we had to change the ways in which the written is on the screen. We also had to change the order that we had the titles in as we had some of them in the wrong order.

Location Permission

We have spoken to Sterling Williams Mum about using her house to film in, she has given us permission to use the house for out filming. We have also showed her the days that we will be going round on and Mrs Williams is happy for us to film during these days.

Thrillers

After watching all of the films we are going to be basing out film on a thriller.  When looking at these films we notices that the genre of a thriller uses a lot of close ups and extreme close ups, this is because they don't want to give away to much information to early, this will keep the audience more interested within the film as they will want to know who that thing/ person is. So when we start filming ours, we are going to be using close ups and extreme close ups, to hide the identity of someone or something.

We also noticed when watching the thrillers that there was clean but fast passed editing going on. They wood focus on an object for a couple of seconds, then their would be a smooth cut to another object. Whilst this was going on the titles where being put  up on the screen. We are going to try and incorporates this into our own film. We're going to have some objects that will appear on the screen; for example we are going to have a cigarette, the smoke that is produced from this will have the title coming from it, this is a grate use of graphic match

Casting Decisions

This video will be informing the audience why we chose these people to play these parts within the film. The decision we made on who we had to play the characters where hard as we had to analyses the characters in detail to see who was the best suited for the role. This is one from the prospective of the director George Hook.

Character Description

This is a brief description of the characters that will be in the opening sequence.  This will allow you to get a good understand of the characters.

Costume - Dress design

This is the dress that we want Sophie to wear, she will be playing the spirit. The colour lack represents the darkness of the character. Her hear will be draped over face to keep her identity secret from the audience.

Animatic

*Spelling mistake on Distribution

This is quick film of our storyboard, this is what it may look like when we finish our film. This will give us a understanding of what the film will look like when it is done. Also when seeing this we know how much time each shot needs to be, we also can put the music over the top of it, seeing how well the music links into the film.

Storyboards

We will be using white font with a black outlining, this will make it stand out. It will fade in and out of the smoke or object. The font will be staying the same size throughout the whole film.

Soundtrack

This is the idea we have for a souondtrack that we created ourselves for our opening sequence. It contains eerie synths which bring mystery to the film as well as water drips which is an aural match to the mise en scene when our protagonist is in the bath. It also makes the audience feel cold and isolated as well as water drops being related to torture. Of course, within the soundtrack you can hear the clear disequilibrium within the track leaving the audience feeling on edge and in suspense without even having to watch anything.

Props and Location

Props and location

Location:  we will be setting our opening sequence in urban setting. We have chosen this as people can relate to where this may be going on, as they may also live in such an area, this then makes it more personal for the audience when watching. When we are in the house we are going to be using low key lighting, we will be only/ trying to use the light that is produced the the light sources within the house. We will be filming this during the night, this well all so create a scarier atmosphere when watching this, as when people see something black/ dark they think it is automaticly scary. Will will also use a wide range of different camera angles, types of shots to create a more scary/ tense atmosphere.

Props

Black dress: this if for when the person will come out the bath and then write the writing on the mirror.

Pills: We are going to be having some pills on the side. These are the pills that will be able to keep the characters problems under-control

Towel: for when the person comes out the bath.

Fake blood: this is going to be used when the person is laying in the bath and they look up and fall asleep but then wake up because blood has fallen onto the forehead.
